I was born and raised in Americus, Georgia, and graduated with a Special Education degree from Georgia Southwestern State University. I hold certifications in Special Education, General Education, and Family and Consumer Sciences. I have taught a total of 18 years, and recently made a change from teaching Special Education to FACS and FCCLA adviser. I began teaching in 1992 at Pearl Stephens Elementary for 3 years at which time I had my first born, then spent 10 years as a homemaker. In 2005 I was excited to start back teaching, and was blessed to receive a position at Feagin Mill, and been at The Mill ever since. This will be my 2nd year as the Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher/FCCLA advisor, and I am beyond thrilled to help each student become more independent at home and the community.
I work at the best school with the best students and faculty, so it was an honor to represent FMMS as the 2017-18 Teacher of the Year.
My husband is Jason Duke, who is a product of Houston CountySchools (NHS c/o 1988). He is and ordained minister who has his own accounting business as a tax preparer, as well as a specialty in non-profit/church bookkeeping.
I have one grandchild (Lucas born November 2019), who has brought such joy to our family. Jason and I have four children Austin (25) who works with the maintenance dept with Houston County BOE, Hunter (22) is finishing up his degree in Politcal Science at UGA (Go Dawgs) with plans to go to law school, Cole (18) is a c/o 2020 graduate from Houston County High, and will graduate with his Associates from GMC December 2020 with plans to transfer to UGA or Ga Southern, and Maggie (15) is a sophomore at Houston County High who enjoys French Club, FCCLA, and time with her friends and family. I also have a grand fur baby named Cal, he's a red golden retriever who doesn't leave Hunter's side.
Things I enjoy doing when I am not at school are spending time with family, cooking, canning, remodeling, etc. My faith is very important to me, so I enjoy spending time with my church family as well.
